The Export Grade is not simply the Standard with PUR instead of PVC/CR — it is a fundamentally different cable designed for international projects where marine classification society approval is a contractual requirement.
When Export Grade Is Required
Export Grade is specified when any of the following conditions apply:
- Marine classification required: The project specification mandates DNV GL, ABS, or Lloyds approval — the cable must be listed on the crane's certified equipment schedule
- Coastal/marine environment: The crane operates at a port terminal, shipyard, or offshore platform — salt spray exposure requires corrosion-proof materials
- Outdoor 24/7 exposure: The cable is permanently exposed to UV, rain, and temperature extremes — PUR jacket maintains its properties where PVC/CR degrades
- Enclosed or confined space: The cable is installed in an enclosed crane machinery house or tunnel — halogen-free materials are mandatory for personnel safety in fire scenarios
- International EPC project: The project requires full material traceability, type test reports, and classification society documentation as part of the equipment certification package
Stainless Steel Messengers — The Corrosion Insurance
Galvanized steel messengers in the Standard version provide adequate corrosion resistance for indoor and covered installations. In a marine or coastal environment, the zinc galvanization layer corrodes within 3–5 years — exposing the underlying steel to rust:
Zn + 2NaCl + H₂O + CO₂ → ZnCO₃ + 2NaOH + ... (zinc carbonate corrosion in salt air)Stainless steel (AISI 304 or 316 grade) is chemically passive in the same environment — the chromium oxide surface layer reforms instantly if scratched, providing permanent corrosion protection without a sacrificial coating.
The cost difference: stainless steel messengers add approximately 10–15% to the cable price. For a 50 m festoon cable, this represents a few hundred dollars — negligible compared to the cost of replacing a failed cable on a container crane whose downtime costs $500–2 000 per hour.
Why Choose Yichi Export Grade Flat Cable?
- DNV GL/ABS/Lloyds certified: Marine classification society approval — documentation provided with every shipment
- PUR jacket standard: Not an extra-cost option — included as the baseline material for Export Grade
- Stainless steel messengers: Corrosion proof for 20+ year design life in marine environments
- Tinned copper throughout: Every conductor is tinned — prevents corrosion in constant marine moisture
- Export documentation package: Material certificates, test reports, and class approval documentation — structured per project requirements
- Fiber optic integration: In-house fiber cabling capacity — tested for attenuation pre- and post-cable manufacture
