Overhead Crane Cable with Steel Wire — Reinforced Round Reeling Cable with Central Steel Wire Tensile Core for Hoist, Trolley, and Bridge Drive Power on Overhead Traveling Cranes

Overhead crane cable with steel wire for EOT and bridge crane motorized drum reeling: 0.6/1 kV power (4–95 mm²) + optional control (0.75–2.5 mm²) in CR or PUR jacket. Central galvanized steel wire tensile/ground core — 10–30 kN working. D/d 10:1, >100 000 reeling cycles. High-flex IEC 60228 Class 5/6 copper. For hoist motor power, trolley traverse, bridge drive, and crane auxiliary function motorized reel systems on overhead traveling cranes.

Key Features

Central galvanized steel wire core: dual function — carries mechanical tension from cable weight + serves as equipment ground conductor
0.6/1 kV power + optional control in one reeling cable — hoist, trolley, and auxiliary motors
CR or PUR jacket: CR for indoor industrial, PUR for outdoor/heavy-duty and halogen-free requirements
IEC 60228 Class 5/6 copper — flexible for continuous motorized drum winding and unwinding
D/d 10:1 minimum; >100 000 reeling cycles at 12:1
CE, RoHS compliant — standard industrial certification
Compact OD relative to copper cross-section — fits standard crane cable glands

Applications

EOT crane hoist motor power — motorized drum cable for main and auxiliary hoistTrolley traverse drive — motorized drum cable for trolley motor powerBridge drive motor — long-travel drum cable for crane bridge driveCrane auxiliary power — grab, magnet, vacuum lifter power supply reelingWorkshop and warehouse overhead crane — general motorized drum reeling

Detailed Description

Steel Wire Core — Two Functions in One

The central conductor in this cable is a galvanized steel wire rope. It serves two functions:

  1. Mechanical: Carries the tensile load from the cable's own weight as it unwinds from the motorized drum — the copper conductors experience zero tension during reeling
  2. Electrical: Serves as the equipment ground (PE) conductor — eliminating the need for a separate ground core and reducing the overall cable OD
This dual-function design is standard for overhead crane reeling applications where the suspended cable weight (typically 1–3 kg/m for hoist applications) must be supported mechanically without relying on the copper conductors.

When to Use Steel Wire vs Flat

Overhead Crane Cable with Steel WireOverhead Crane Flat Cable
ApplicationMotorized drum reelingFestoon loop system
Crane typeHoist, trolley, bridge drive powerTrolley traverse festoon
Steel messengerCentral — carries tension + groundEdge — supports cable horizontally
StrengthWithstands vertical cable weightSupports horizontal loop spans
MotionWinding/unwinding on drumExpanding/contracting festoon loops

Steel wire round cable is for vertical reeling — the hoist moving up and down. Flat cable is for horizontal festoon — the trolley moving left and right along the bridge. Most overhead cranes use both: steel wire cable on the hoist drum, flat cable on the trolley festoon.

Construction Summary

ElementSpecification
Power conductorsBare copper, IEC 60228 Class 5 or Class 6; 4-95 mm²
Control conductors (optional)0.75-2.5 mm²; 2-12 cores
Core insulationEPR - compression-resistant, high dielectric
Core strandingConcentric around the central steel wire core
Steel wire coreGalvanized, 1 770 N/mm² - central; carries tension and serves as ground
Steel core working load10-30 kN (application-specific)
Inner sheath (optional)CR or NBR rubber
Outer jacketCR neoprene (black, standard heavy-duty) or PUR TMPU (halogen-free, outdoor/heavy-duty)

Electrical and Reeling Duty

  • Rated voltage 0.6/1 kV, test voltage 3 500 V AC for 5 minutes
  • Temperature range -25 °C to +70 °C with the CR jacket, or -40 °C to +80 °C with the PUR jacket
  • Minimum D/d 10:1, with 12:1 recommended
  • More than 100 000 reeling cycles achieved at 12:1 D/d
  • Flame retardant to IEC 60332-1-2
  • CE and RoHS compliant

Applications

  • EOT crane hoist motor power - motorized drum cable for main and auxiliary hoist
  • Trolley traverse drive - motorized drum cable for trolley motor power
  • Bridge drive motor - long-travel drum cable for crane bridge drive
  • Crane auxiliary power - grab, magnet, vacuum lifter power supply reeling
  • Workshop and warehouse overhead crane - general motorized drum reeling
The outside diameter is compact relative to the copper cross-section, so the cable fits standard crane cable glands without special entries.
