TRVVP Double-Sheathed Shielded Drag Chain Cable | Flexible Control Cable for Industrial Automation

Category:

TRVVP Double-Sheathed, Shielded Flexible Drag Chain Cable

The TRVVP series is a premium flexible control cable engineered specifically for continuous reciprocating motion in cable carriers, drag chains, and automated machinery. Featuring a double-sheathed, shielded construction, this cable delivers exceptional reliability for high-flex applications in demanding industrial environments. Common installations include woodworking machinery, CNC machine tools, material handling and logistics systems, hoisting equipment, and other areas requiring frequent bending and movement.

With an oil-resistant, UV-resistant, flame-retardant, and cold-resistant modified PVC jacket, the TRVVP cable is built for longevity, achieving a flex life exceeding 5 million bending cycles. It is suitable for use in dry or damp indoor settings where no strong tensile stress is imposed, making it the go-to solution for high-speed, moving applications.

Product Construction

Conductor:
Fine-stranded, extra-high-purity oxygen-free bare copper, conforming to VDE 0295 Class 6 / IEC 60228 Class 6. This super-fine stranding ensures maximum flexibility and a long service life under constant motion.

Insulation:
Special-formulation PVC compound. This provides excellent dielectric strength while maintaining the cable’s flexible core.

Core Identification:

  • For conductor cross-sections ≤0.5mm²: Colored insulation (Brown, Black, Blue, Purple, Pink, Orange).

  • For conductor cross-sections ≥0.5mm²: Black cores with white numerical coding. 3 cores and above include a Green/Yellow ground conductor (optional).

Overall Shield:
High-coverage tinned copper braid provides optimum protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI), ensuring signal integrity in instrumentation and control circuits.

Outer Sheath (Double Sheathed):
The cable features a robust double-layered outer jacket made from a special modified PVC compound.

  • Standard Colors: Black (RAL 9005), Grey (RAL 7001), Orange (RAL 2003).

  • Properties: Oil-resistant per EN 50363-4-1, UV-stabilized, wear-resistant, and self-extinguishing/flame-retardant per IEC 60332-1-2.

4. FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions for Procurement

What is the difference between TRVV and TRVVP cable?
The core distinction lies in the shielding. A standard TRVV cable is an unshielded flexible cable for drag chains. A TRVVP cable includes a tinned copper braided shield layer. You should specify a TRVVP when your application involves signal interference, such as connecting VFDs, sensors, or data lines where electromagnetic noise could cause malfunction. For pure power transmission without EMI concerns, a TRVV cable may be a more economical choice.

What does “double sheathed” mean, and why is it important for cable chain applications?
A double-sheathed construction means the cable has an inner jacket (covering the cores and shield) and a distinct outer jacket. This design significantly improves mechanical durability by allowing the two layers to slide against each other during bending. The result is reduced internal friction, superior notch resistance, and a dramatically longer service life in fast-moving, continuous-flex applications compared to single-jacket cables.

Can this cable be used outdoors or in wet environments?
Yes, with careful design consideration. The special PVC jacket is UV-resistant and rated for damp conditions, making it suitable for outdoor use in moving applications, such as automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS). However, the cable must not be submerged continuously. For long outdoor travel lengths, ensure cable management systems provide adequate strain relief and protection from direct, heavy rainfall exposure.

What is the minimum bending radius I should design for?
For moving drag chain applications with a travel distance of less than 10 meters, design your cable management system for a minimum bend radius of 7.5 times the cable’s outer diameter (d). For long travel distances exceeding 10 meters, increase this to 10 times the outer diameter to account for the greater mechanical forces involved.
