Detailed Description
What Is Oil Resistant Cable (RVVY)?
RVVY is a flexible multi-core PVC insulated cable with a modified PVC/nitrile rubber (NBR) outer sheath — the 'Y' suffix designates oil resistance (耐油 Nài Yóu). Standard RVV cable (PVC/PVC) is suitable for indoor, clean, dry environments. In an oily industrial environment — a machine shop floor, an automotive workshop, a hydraulic press area — the standard PVC sheath degrades within months: the mineral oil contact extracts the plasticizers from the PVC, the sheath becomes brittle, cracks, and exposes the conductors. RVVY's NBR-modified sheath resists this degradation, extending the cable's service life in the oil-exposed environment.
The NBR modification is not a complete solution — RVVY is oil-resistant, not oil-immune. For cables that will be submerged in oil, continuously saturated with hydraulic fluid, or exposed to aggressive cutting fluids, a PUR (polyurethane) or CR (neoprene) sheathed cable provides superior oil resistance. RVVY is the cost-effective middle ground: significantly better oil resistance than standard PVC, at a moderate cost premium, for the general workshop and factory floor environment where oil exposure is frequent but not continuous immersion.
Why Choose Yichi Oil Resistant Cables (RVVY Type)
- NBR-modified PVC sheath — verified oil resistance to IEC 60811-404: The oil resistance is tested per the standard test method — oil immersion at 100°C for 24 hours, followed by tensile strength and elongation measurement. The sheath must retain ≥50% of its tensile strength and elongation after the test. This is the quantitative verification that the Y-modified sheath provides the oil resistance that standard PVC does not
- Black sheath with carbon black UV stabilisation — practical for the industrial environment: The black colour and the carbon black content provide UV stabilisation for the cable sections exposed to daylight near factory windows and roller doors. The black colour also does not show the oil and dirt stains that would make a grey or white cable unsightly in the industrial environment
- Class 5 flexible conductor — routes easily around machine tools: The flexible stranding accommodates the routing of the cable from the wall isolator to the machine's terminal box — through the machine's cable management system, around obstacles, and to the termination point. The cable is a connection lead, not a fixed installation cable — it moves with the machine when the machine is repositioned
- Full 0.75–35 mm² and 2–5 core range — from lighting to motor power: The complete flexible cable range in an oil-resistant jacket — single-phase tool connections (3-core, 1.5 mm²), three-phase machine power (4-core or 5-core, 2.5–16 mm²), and larger industrial equipment connections (4-core, 25–35 mm²) — one cable type for all workshop flexible connections
